Game Set Up
At the start of the game, each player (or team) has a different colour taxi counter, a loan token and a 20 pound float. The taxi counters are placed on the box marked RANK.
Shuffle and place a set of TOURIST QUESTION cards in their position on the board.
Shuffle the GIVE OR TAKE cards and place in their position on the board and do the same with the SOUND OFF cards.
Place the remaining money in the relevant positions on the board. Decide how long the game (taxi driver’s shift) will be (e.g. 60 minutes, 90 minutes, etc.).
You might want to use a clock, watch, smartphone or kitchen timer to manage the game time.
The dice is thrown to determine the order of play. The player who throws the highest number starts.
The first player then throws the dice to determine the number of spaces to move in a clockwise direction.
- 1x Game Board
- 200 Tourist Question Cards (400 Questions)
- 25 Give OR Take Cards
- 100 Sound Off Cards
- 4 Taxi Counters
- 4 Loan Tokens
- 1x Timer
- 1x Dice
Any time a player lands on a FARE box, they collect the amount shown from the bank.
They then continue rolling until they land on something other than another FARE box.
The player follows the instructions on this box before play passes to the next player.
If a player lands on a TOURIST QUESTION box, the player to their right picks up a question card and asks them the question worth 2 or 4 pounds depending on the amount shown on the box.
If they answer the question correctly, they receive that amount as a tip.
The next player then throws the dice.
Give Or Take
If a player lands on a GIVE OR TAKE box, they must decide before looking at the card, whether they will give the card to another player or take the card and play it themselves.
If the player is giving the card away, they can select any other player to give the card to.
Money can be won or lost and is taken from, or given to, the bank. The next player then throws the dice.
As everybody who has flagged a taxi knows, taxi drivers have opinions on every subject, and now it’s your turn!
If a player lands on the SOUND OFF box, the player to their right picks up a SOUND OFF card and reads out the subject that is written on the card, but not the six words or phrases written underneath it.
The player whose turn it is, has to talk on the specified subject for 30 seconds.
For each of the six listed words and phrases the player mentions when talking, they receive 4 pounds. Use the sand timer to keep time.
The next player then throws the dice.
If a player lands on the RE-FUEL box, they must pay 6 pounds to the bank.
The next player throws the dice.
If a player lands on the DIVERSION box, they move on the diversion route.
The player either pays 20 pounds to the bank to proceed to the EXIT or throws the dice. If they throw the dice, they move along the diversion route. If the player throws a 1, they move along one box, lose 6 pounds and throw again.
The next player then throws the dice. On the diverted player’s next turn, they must throw the number shown in the box to exit. They have two throws to do this.
If they don't they must stay on that box, pay 4 pounds to the bank and wait their turn. When the player reaches the EXIT box, they can choose to exit via SOUND OFF box or GIVE OR TAKE box.
If a player lands on the RANK box, the next player throws. 10 pounds is collected from the bank only after the rank is passed (on the player’s next turn).
If a player loses all their money, they have one chance to borrow 20 pounds from the bank.
They do this by handing in their loan token to the bank.
The token can be redeemed at any time by the player paying 30 pounds to the bank.
The loan must be paid back by the end of the game, as any player with a loan outstanding cannot win the game.
If a player loses all their money again while their loan token is in the bank, they are eliminated from the game.
Winning The Game:
When the agreed game time has finished, all players count up their money.
The player with the greatest sum is the winner. However, remember that if any players still have their loan tokens with the bank when the game time has finished, they cannot win the game.
